Sailing passenger ship

The 'Kleine Jager' is currently used as a sailing passenger ship.

The sailing passenger fleet fits in perfectly with the trend towards a more sustainable form of holiday and leisure activities. Think about it: holidays in your own country with minimal travel times and a negligible environmental impact. The wind provides the propulsion, the use of fossil fuels is kept to a minimum and eliminated where possible. The ship was built in 1892 and is maintained by tender and loving care. Not a disposable product but a ship of almost 130 years old that uses the wind as propulsion, could it be any better? With sustainable tourism, the human aspect should not be forgotten either: guests are requested to actively participate with the sailing activities and after a beautiful day of sailing it is time to prepare a meal together on board. Do we not most often meet during the meal?

With a traditional sailing ship, think of 'a ticket to freedom', true wealth is not measured by what you have but by what you do. You do not actually book a holiday, but a step into a new lifestyle. A choice for such a holiday is a choice for freedom. It is a choice for adventure, discover new places (who has ever been in Noordpolderzijl?) and make new friends. Experience the romance of the play with wind and water and meet each other on the water, under sun and moon.

A holiday like this truly is an 'all inclusive'! Unlimited pleasure with wind, water, nature, scenary and your fellow traveler.

On deck

With a length of 22 meters and a width of 5 meters, there is a lot of space on deck of the 'Kleine Jager'. The sailing ship was originally built as a deck barge, so with the crew accommodation under the aft deck. There is no superstructure on the deck, so there is an unobstructed view in all directions. The tarred wooden hatches of the past have made way for a steel deck, but other then that, the 'Kleine Jager' is fully authentic. The deck is spacious and there is room for everyone: snugged together in the cockpit or stretched out on deck under the sun.

The rigging

The sails are hoisted and operated by hand. And, as in the old days, the ship is not steered with a steering wheel but with a tiller. It is an extraordinary experience to steer such a large ship through the waves with your hands around the tiller. When the ship is properly trimmed, she can be steered with your little finger!

Sailing

Safety is paramount. The crew therefore carefully explains the handling of the ships's rigging, the halyards and the sheets. Active participation with sailing is certainly appreciated; many hands make light work. Everyone will be made familiar with the ship in a pleasant way. Sailing experience is not necessary for active participation.

Families

The ship is provided with a high railing all around with wooden boards in between so that it also offers good protection for small children. Under the supervision of parents and crew, children can also sail along safely and adventurously.

Below deck

Below deck, this ship is warm and cozy.
